June/July

We tend to think of moths as insects that only come out at dusk, but there are many species that are active in the daylight hours. I saw this specimen whilst out walking with the group a few weeks ago

I don't know its name, but its body and under wings were a  beautiful pink. If you recognise it, please email our editor.

We have had a pamphlet though our letter box regarding a Proposed Wind Farm at Middlewick, Bradwell.

One paragraph is Headed WILDLIFE and goes on to say -

Ecological studies are currently ongoing to assess potential effects on local wildlife, birds and vegetation in the area. Further studies would be undertaken prior to construction so that all ecological concerns are taken into account.

My question is, what it it is proved that these turbines have a lasting detrimental effect on the local wildlife, will they abandon the whole idea ?- I think not. My feeling is that they will do what they want regardless.

We are now well ahead with the organising of the Blackwater Marathon - 31st October.

If you have any food ideas I would like to hear from you. We had a request from a walker on the Essexwalker challenge that there should be less salad sandwiches, so now I will make sure that there is a plate of non-salad. We do try to please everyone, so let me know what you want and I will try my best to arrange it.

We are organising the St Peter’s Way in a day again this year. Have a look at the Editorial page for all the details. We must limit this event to 30 people to enable us to get everyone back to Ongar by Mini bus. If you want to enter after we have our 30 then you must make your own arrangements to get back to Ongar.
